Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Telemetry Unit (TU)
A cornerstone of Holland Hospital’s recent expansion is the new 30-bed Intensive Care and Telemetry Unit. All rooms are private and roomy providing the space not only for the needd technology, life-saving equipment and medical professionals, but also for family members and visitors.
ICUs strategic location near the Emergency Department ensures immediate intervention for patients with life-threatening conditions.
Highly skilled nurses, specially trained in cardiac intervention, neurosurgery, multi-system failure and other high-risk situations, provide constant patient observation and monitoring in the ICU/TU.
Conditions likely to be cared for in the ICU and TU include:
- myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- congestive heart failure
- cerebral vascular attack (stroke)
- other cardiac and vascular conditions
- acute neurosurgery / neurological procedures
- high acuity post-op abdominal or thoracic cases
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- acute respiratory distress
- trauma
- multi-system failure
- unstable blood pressure
- renal failure
- hemodialysis
- metabolic disorders

The ICU and TU feature a central nursing station flanked by eight ICU rooms and 22 telemetry rooms for patients who are considered stable but still require constant monitoring.
To support a family-friendly environment, the ICU/TU has a lounge with comfortable seating, TV, storage closet, vending machines and a bathroom with a shower. A consultation room is available for families to meet privately with physicians and caregivers.
