Holland Hospital Invested Over $3 Million In Lakeshore Community to Improve Health of Residents in FY 2023

HOLLAND, Mich., Jan. 11, 2024 — Holland Hospital today announces the total raised from its Community Benefit Programs during fiscal year 2023 (FY23). From community health education and community-based clinical services to health profession education, Holland Hospital provided $3,399,854 to the Lakeshore region.

This substantial financial commitment underscores the organization’s dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those throughout the community by expanding access to care, addressing health care workforce needs, and improving the health of vulnerable populations. 

The community-based clinical services program, which was the most financially significant program in 2023, ensures that even those without the means to pay for health care services receive necessary medical attention and support.

An itemized breakdown of the Community Benefit Report is available below:

  • Community health education: $164,315 
  • Community-based clinical services (nonbilled/reduced-fee clinics): $1,279,217 
  • Health care support services/transportation services: $4,655 
  • Health professions education: $230,033 
  • Financial donations for community (cash, in-kind, and cost of fundraising): $1,050,625 
  • Community building activities: $671,009

*The numbers above do not include Medicare and Medicaid Shortfalls, bad debt, charity care, or any subsidized health services.

Community health education includes counseling, self-help, support groups, family support, and community benefit operations. Health care support and community-based clinical services include in-home services, meals and nutrition, transportation, health screenings, immunizations, nonbilled and reduced-fee clinics, discounted prescriptions and medical supplies. 

Health professions education includes an investment in health care talent retention and workforce development. Community building activities include the involvement in and financial and in-kind support of activities that help promote the health and well-being of community residents.

According to Michigan Health and Hospital Association’s 2023 Economic Impact of Health Care in Michigan Report, health care remains Michigan’s largest private-sector employer despite pandemic losses.
