Hope’s athletes will also have access to a new premier Orthopedic Center opening in November. Located in Zeeland, the 40,000-square-foot medical facility will provide access to orthopedic surgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, outpatient physical therapy, and "return-to-sport" rehabilitation services. The expansive facility includes a 19,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center featuring four operating rooms, two of which will used upon opening with two additional operating rooms for future use, two procedure rooms, 16 post-anesthesia and recovery stations, a 15,000-square-foot orthopedic clinic, and a 5,000-square-foot outpatient rehabilitation service.

“We are excited to partner with Hope College to provide exceptional care for their student-athletes,” said Bruce Stewart, MD, Shoreline Orthopaedics. “Holland Hospital and Shoreline Orthopaedics will be working comprehensively with Hope College in assisting with athletic training coverage, physical therapy and sports medicine rehab, injury prevention and screening, and advanced care for athletic injuries. We have been working together for years and are happy to take our relationship in an even more coordinated and comprehensive direction.”

Hope College, a Division III member of the NCAA, is part of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The college fields 22 varsity teams and has partnered with Holland Hospital to provide medical care for its 720 student-athletes.

“We are thrilled to partner with Holland Hospital and Shoreline Orthopaedics,” said Tim Schoonveld, Hope College Director of Athletics. “Over the years, we have worked closely with both organizations to meet the needs of our student-athletes. This formalized partnership will provide us with additional resources that enhance what we can do within our athletic training and physical therapy areas. Our student-athletes will be the beneficiaries of this partnership and we look forward to building on what has already been an outstanding relationship with Holland Hospital and Shoreline Orthopaedics.”

The athletes and athletic trainers look forward to a healthy and successful season. “This partnership is a game-changer for Hope’s athletes,” said Amanda Felton, athletic training coordinator at Holland Hospital. “Having access to the Sports Medicine Collaborative means faster recovery times, better injury prevention, and ultimately, stronger and healthier student-athletes.”
